Novi: A Growing and Thriving Community in Michigan

Located just 25 miles northwest of Detroit, Novi is a popular Oakland County city that has grown a lot in the last several years.

More than 55,000 people live in this beautiful community, which is renowned for its job opportunities and local amenities.

If you’ve been looking for a place that is conveniently close to Detroit and Ann Arbor while still preserving that small town look and feel, then Novi may be just the right community for you!

First, a Little Background on This Michigan Community

Novi was originally incorporated as a city in 1969 thanks to approval of a city charter by local Village of Novi voters.

The community got its name from the suggestion of resident Dr. J. C. Emery. Residents at the time were looking for a shorter name than Farmington Township.

It’s not exactly clear how the name Novi was created, although several theories have been proposed over the years.

Today, this 31.28-square-mile community, which is located on Walled Lake, is beloved for all the quality of life amenities it offers residents. No wonder it’s growing each year!

Novi: A City that Celebrates History

Like its neighbor Northville, Novi really loves to preserve its history. That’s evident by a drive through the town limits.

Some historic sites you’ll encounter throughout the community include:

  • Historic Township Hall
  • Tollgate Farm
  • Colonel Samuel White Homestead
  • Novi Depot
  • Jacob and Rebecca Fuerst Farmstead
